The Fulton City School District board accepted the certified election results at its meeting, voting 6-0 to approve the motion to accept results as read aloud by meeting staff. Board members also recited vote totals for school board and library trustee contests and reported that the district budget and several ballot propositions passed, officials said.
Why it matters: Certification at a school-board meeting formally records who won local office and confirms the outcome of ballot measures that affect district funding and services, including voter-approved budgets and a library tax.
At the meeting, the presiding meeting facilitator moved to accept the election results; the motion was seconded and approved on a 6-0-0 vote. The facilitator read vote totals reported to the board: Timothy Connors, 527 votes; Jessica O’Brien, 407; and Timothy Crandall, 386 for Board of Education contests. For library trustee contests the facilitator read: Kayla Bateman, 482; Leah Gallick, 312; Carl Sensor, 218; and Kayla Walker, 381 (numbers read as presented at the meeting).
The facilitator also reported results from district ballot questions as they were read: the budget proposition passed with 439 yes votes and 340 no votes (779 total); a student transportation vehicle proposition passed with 453 yes and 324 no (777 total); a sale-of-property proposition passed with 700 yes and 74 no (774 total); and a library tax proposition passed with 496 yes and 280 no (776 total). Those totals were reported to the board during the acceptance of results and were not votes taken by the board.
Mr. Pulvina, whose role was not specified in the meeting transcript, thanked the community for supporting the budget and described the budget process. He said, “It was a a very long budget season. There was lots of opportunities for input. I hope that everybody received the information they had or they needed.” He added that the district will begin work on the next year’s budget after the current cycle.
Discussion versus action: Board members’ activity at the meeting consisted of formally accepting the election results and congratulating the nominees; no additional policy votes or budget actions occurred at this meeting beyond acceptance of the election results. The motion to accept the results and a subsequent procedural motion to close the meeting were both moved, seconded and approved 6-0-0.
The board offered brief remarks of appreciation to outgoing member Timothy Crandall “for his service” and congratulated the winners. After the acceptance and brief comments, members moved to close the meeting and the motion passed unanimously.
