Board staff reported that the new Fire Station 47, located at 601 South Hercules Avenue across from Clearwater High School, will host a rotating mural program featuring student work from the high school.
Amber Brace, Arts and Cultural Affairs Manager, said she connected with the school principal and art teacher Miss Hoffman; the teacher will select six students who will work in pairs to paint three plywood panels that will form a triptych mural. Brace described the plan as a one-year display with the potential to rotate annually, and said there is also the possibility of installing a permanent piece later if student participation wanes.
Board members expressed support for connecting students to the public-art process and suggested inviting students to meetings to observe the selection and commissioning steps. The program aims to give students real-world experience and finished works they can include in portfolios.
Staff did not present final timelines for fabrication, framing or installation at the meeting; those implementation details remain to be arranged with the school and facilities staff.
