The Board of Zoning Adjustment approved a modification without hearing to increase the height of an existing monopole at 1800 Perry Street NE from 84 feet to 99 feet to permit co‑location of a carrier that must be relocated during construction at nearby Burroughs Elementary School.

The modification was requested as a change to an earlier BZA order (application 20566) that had allowed an 84‑foot monopole under Subtitle C special‑exception standards. The applicant said the modest 15‑foot increase is needed to accommodate another carrier and argued the visual and neighborhood impacts are limited. The Office of Planning reviewed the record and recommended approval, finding the change met Subtitle C §1313.2 and the general standards of Subtitle X §901.2. The board approved the modification by a 3–0–2 vote.

Board members noted there was no ANC report in the record but that required notices had been posted and that the Office of Planning and staff found the modification appropriate given the site context and lack of objections. The board accepted the Office of Planning’s analysis and approved the height increase as a modification without hearing.
