The City of Allen Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously May 20 to recommend approval of a specific use permit to allow Body Bar Pilates to occupy about 2,000 square feet at 596 East Stacy Road, Suite 1150, a retail space in the Allen Center North Addition. Commissioner Stoker made the motion to recommend approval and Commissioner Galletti seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
Staff planner Miss Ahmad told the commission the tenant space is on the west end of the shopping-center-zoned building and that the proposal is classified as a health and fitness center, which “requires an S. U.” in the shopping center district. Miss Ahmad said the studio would hold about six to 10 classes per day with roughly 10 to 12 students per class, that all activities would be indoors, and that “staff recommends approval of this request.”
Miss Ahmad said the proposal requires 10 parking spaces and that the overall site has 73 spaces, so based on the city’s parking calculation there is adequate on-site parking. She also said the applicant is not proposing any site improvements at this time.
The commission opened and closed the public hearing without public comment; the chair said, “Seeing no movement or no blue cards filled out in advance, I'll close the public hearing.” Commissioners asked no substantive questions before the vote.
After the commission’s recommendation the chair indicated the next step for the item is in June. No public opposition or conditions were recorded during the meeting.
