Cabarrus Virtual Academy held a commencement ceremony for its Class of 2025, during which graduates were presented with diplomas and turned their tassels in a ceremony that emphasized resilience and independent learning.
Doctor Koepiki, addressing students, families and staff, said, "Tonight, we celebrate something more than graduation. We celebrate resilience." Principal Chrissy Rotan told graduates, "Whatever your next step, I want you to know this, you are ready," and described skills students developed in the virtual setting including time management and adaptability.
Student speaker Jordan O'Loughlin, who identified themself as a member of the graduating class, said, "I'm very introverted and not very good in front of a large crowd," and thanked teachers and families for support during the students' time at the academy. Rotan and school staff were repeatedly credited for regular on-campus tutoring and social opportunities, which the principal noted were offered on Thursdays to supplement virtual instruction.
Principal Rotan and student Brianna Watson joined at the podium to present diplomas. An announcer read students' names aloud; the ceremony closed with the presentation of the Cabarrus Virtual Academy Class of 2025 and the traditional turning of tassels.
The program emphasized the program's mix of online instruction and periodic in-person supports, and reiterated the academy's role within Cabarrus County Schools in serving students who seek flexible learning arrangements.
