Pecos City Council on Thursday appointed Ginny Barmel to fill an unexpired Permian Economic Development Corporation (PEDC) board seat, effective through Sept. 30, 2025.

Jimmy Dettmer, executive director of the PEDC, briefed the council on two candidates who had applied to fill the vacancy left by John Parent. Dettmer recommended Barmel, saying she is a local business owner and would help maintain balance on the board. The council voted 5‑0 with Councilman Saldanha recorded as an abstention; staff said it would notify both candidates of the outcome and invite the non‑selected candidate to reapply for future openings.

Dettmer said he would contact both applicants and work with council staff on future recruitment and attendance expectations for the board.
