Norfolk Public Schools recognized student achievement and teacher excellence across several events and awards.
The district said the 200 Plus Men organization hosted its annual 200 Plus Scholars breakfast, where nearly 50 Norfolk Public Schools students were honored; the announcement named Rasheem Moi Jr. among those recognized as a graduating member of the 200 Plus Scholars Academy. The district also noted that several students from Ruffner School were accepted into the Sentara Health Career Camp.
Administrators presented Rock Star awards to teachers at schools across the division to recognize outstanding attendance or high student participation on STAR literacy assessments. A teacher quoted in the announcement described the recognition as a pleasant surprise and a morale booster: "It's awesome. It's a big surprise. ... I think it's a good way to make sure that, you know, people are recognized and they continue to have a positive energy coming to work every day."
Separately, the district announced it had again been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education award by the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), citing the district's commitment to high-quality music education and the arts.
The district congratulated all students and teachers recognized and encouraged continued engagement in academic and enrichment opportunities.
