MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A Cheat Lake resident asked the Monongalia County Commission on May 21 to seek information on a left-lane closure on the I‑68 bridge near Saberton that the resident said has been in place for more than a month with little visible progress and has created traffic backups.
“I travel on I‑68 throughout all times of the day, and absolutely no one is working or doing any sort of patching, paving, or construction,” resident Pokey Weiss wrote in an email read into the record. “This blockage has been in effect for over a month with absolutely no progress being seen.”
Weiss said westbound traffic backed up past the Pierpont exit and described long delays caused by merging problems and tractor‑trailer congestion, calling the situation “very unsafe.” County staff acknowledged the email and said they would pass the complaint along and request assistance or information from the West Virginia Division of Highways.
Commissioners did not take formal action at the May 21 meeting beyond directing staff to relay the constituent’s concerns to appropriate agencies. No timeline for a response from state road authorities was provided at the meeting.
