Lee County commissioners approved a $512,000 board action request to fund a premium data-conversion package for the county’s new court case management system.
Amy Johnson, court staff, told the board the premium conversion is needed because the county is largely paperless and a basic conversion would require manual re-entry of thousands of accounts receivable, hearing dates and warrants. She said the premium conversion will reduce errors and streamline court operations. Johnson estimated the total conversion cost at about $1.5 million; the county had budgeted $1 million in capital but did not receive an anticipated grant to cover the remainder.
County finance committee members warned the additional draw will tighten the county’s reserves. A board member noted Lee County’s reserves are about $9 million and that a statutory three-month reserve requirement is roughly $4.6 million; the $512,000 payment, on top of existing capital, will reduce available reserves and make the year-end position “pretty darn tight,” the board member said. The board approved the $512,000 request by voice vote.
Board members were told the full conversion could take 18 months to several years depending on start date and project stages, and that staged payments align with project milestones.
