Scotty’s House seeks $29,250 from county to sustain child advocacy services

Scotty’s House asked the Brazos County Commissioners Court for $29,250 to help sustain forensic interviews, medical exams, counseling and court support the organization provides free to child victims in Brazos County.
"Scotty's House provides safety, healing and justice to child victims of crime through professional assessments, counseling and advocacy at no cost to families," board member Robert Orzabal told the court. He said roughly 53% of the organization's clients are from Brazos County and that in 2024 the center provided services described on the record as 312 forensic interviews, 73 forensic medical exams, roughly 2,215 counseling sessions and 98 hours of court testimony and consultation.
Orzabal said the requested $29,250 would cover critical services and that the average cost per client is a little under $2,000; at that funding level the organization estimated it could fully fund services for about 15 children, while serving hundreds overall. Orzabal and court members said Scotty's House reduces county prosecution costs by providing coordinated forensic and therapeutic services for child victims.
Court members thanked presenters and noted the center's contribution to the justice process; no funding decision was made at the workshop. The request will be considered during FY26 budget deliberations.
