Council interviews Nate Smith for Zoning Hearing Board slot; council to prepare appointment resolution

Franklin Park Borough Council interviewed Nate Smith on May 21 for an open seat on the Zoning Hearing Board and directed staff to prepare a resolution for appointment.

Smith said he had lived in the borough for about two years and that a neighbor invited him to apply. "I would, if you asked if I'd be interested, I said, 'Sure — be happy to,'" Smith told the council. He said his professional background includes marketing communications and business development and that he currently works for a company called Grama Matter doing industrial consulting and manufacturing modernization.

Council members asked about meeting frequency and responsibilities for alternates. Smith said he understood the board’s role in hearing zoning and waiver requests and that he would serve as needed. Council members confirmed that the position does not require attendance every month and that alternates vote when the board needs them.

Council members noted they had received a letter of interest via email; one member said a resume was emailed the previous day and another member said they did not receive it. The council indicated it can appoint members by resolution and discussed doing so at the upcoming meeting.

There was no roll-call vote or formal recorded appointment during the pre-meeting. Council directed staff to prepare the appointment resolution and said the council could adopt it at the regular meeting.
