Two Franklin Park residents urged borough council on May 21 to pursue sidewalks and pedestrian connections that would improve access to Franklin Elementary and neighborhood walkability.
Sean Hyde, who identified himself as a local parent at 1417 Scarlet Ridge Drive, thanked the borough for looking into improving sidewalk access to Franklin Elementary and asked council to continue investigating options with PennDOT and other partners so more families could safely walk to school.
Steve Estes, 2415 Tracy Drive, told the council he supports installing sidewalks on Rochester Road to allow his children and neighbors to walk to school. Estes said Rochester Road is unsafe for people pushing strollers, walking dogs or bicycling, and that improving pedestrian connectivity was the top priority in the borough’s comprehensive plan two years ago. He suggested the borough pursue funding programs that align with PennDOT and offered to help with planning.
No formal motion or vote on sidewalks was recorded during the meeting. Council members thanked the speakers but did not announce specific next steps during the public-comment period.
