The Suwannee County Board of County Commissioners voted 5–0 on May 20 to close and vacate all county and public interest in a portion of County Road known as 100 And Sixth Street.
County staff witness Mister Meece explained the road segment lies east of County Road 137, just south of the I‑10 crossing, and that surrounding parcels are owned by a single landowner. Meece said the road has not been maintained by the county since at least February 2004 and provides no access to other properties or the broader road network.
Meece told the board that appropriate public notice had been given and that a survey description was included with the application and made part of the resolution of approval. Commissioner Hale asked whether all joint landowners were notified; Meece responded that the application included the survey and the anticipated split of ownership along the center line.
Public comment on the item was nil. Commissioner Mobley moved to adopt the resolution to close and vacate the road; Commissioner White seconded. The motion carried 5–0.
Why it matters: Closing and vacating a county road converts public right‑of‑way to private ownership along the surveyed centerline and relieves the county of maintenance responsibilities for a road the county has not maintained in years.
