A resident told the Tree and Public Garden Commission she is concerned about a proposed Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) station planned for Main Street directly in front of Christ Lutheran preschool and said she fears interactions between riders and young children.
Linda Cub, who identified herself from 724 Francis Avenue, described personal concerns and said she worried the bus stop location and a simultaneous loss of trees along the sidewalk could create added risk. She urged the city to reconsider or seek additional mitigations.
A member of the city staff responded that the proposed boarding island would sit on an existing median that would be widened within the right‑of‑way and that the project is at a 60% design phase; final design details about exact tree impacts were not yet available. The police chief told the commission the department has discussed the location with Christ Lutheran and has not seen reported negative interactions between COTA riders and adjacent schools at comparable stops, such as the stop in front of Montrose Elementary.
Staff said the vote on a related item may occur on May 27 and encouraged residents to attend that meeting for a fuller presentation when COTA’s 60% design is closer to final.
