Council adopts multijurisdictional automatic aid agreement for fire and EMS

The Spanish Fork City Council adopted a resolution Tuesday approving a multijurisdictional automatic‑aid and mutual‑aid agreement that formalizes training, emergency medical and fire response cooperation with Wasatch Fire District, Carbon County, Helper City, Price City and Utah County agencies.
Chief Kevin Ailes explained the agreement mirrors ones other Utah County fire agencies already have in place and creates a standardized legal framework for sharing personnel and resources, reducing liability uncertainty and documenting reimbursement and training arrangements. “This puts into place just some language that will allow us to work with one another, protect the cities, protect the counties from anything coming back to us for sharing resources,” he said.
The resolution passed on a roll‑call vote; staff told the council other participating jurisdictions had already agreed to the same terms. The agreement applies to automatic aid (pre‑arranged cross‑jurisdictional responses) and mutual aid for larger incidents, with standard provisions addressing training, equipment and cost recovery protocols.
Council members praised the cooperative step as a routine but necessary administrative action to ensure consistent emergency response across county lines.
