RSU 22 policy committee advances broad set of bylaws and governance policy updates

Items moved for first reading included a consolidated Board Officers policy (BDB/BDB variants), revisions to board member authority and responsibilities (BBAA), school board powers and responsibilities (BBA), board member qualifications (BBBA), unexpired term fulfillment (BBBE) and a revised code of ethics (BCA). The committee also moved to delete several older, superseded policies as a slate.
On second reading, the board approved nondiscrimination/equal opportunity/affirmative action policy AC and harassment policies ACAB (employees) and ACAA (students) without modification. The policy committee emphasized that some older policies were being rolled into single, updated documents to reflect the district’s change from MSAD to RSU and to add up‑to‑date legal references.
During discussion on unexpired term fulfillment (BBBE), a board member raised a question about whether appointed replacements serve only until the next annual municipal election or complete the remainder of the resigned member’s term; the committee chair said she would check state law and report back before second reading. A separate motion to delete a duplicate resignation policy (BBBC) was approved.
All motions on policy first and second readings were approved unanimously on the floor; the transcript records the board voting “all those in favor” on each item and unanimous outcomes were announced.
