Union County approves one-year intergovernmental agreement to fund county animal control program

The Union County Board of Commissioners voted to approve an intergovernmental agreement among the county and multiple local municipalities to fund the county's animal control program for the coming fiscal year.
County staff told the board the agreement mirrors previous years' arrangements and covers the period from Dec. 1, 2024, through Nov. 30, 2025. Staff said they circulated the draft to participating cities and villages during the county budget process and that the municipalities had agreed in principle and signed the agreement.
A commissioner moved to approve the intergovernmental agreement and the board recorded affirmative votes by Commissioners Harville, Pitts, Miller, Bierstadt and Gould.
Board members noted the arrangement is the same approach used in prior years and that the county had shared the draft during budget preparation so municipalities could review and sign before the county's approval. The board did not alter the term or the basic funding structure during the meeting.
