Council renews memorandum to fund three full-time school resource officers for 2025–26

Oxford City Council on May 20 adopted a resolution authorizing the city manager to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Tallawanda School District to continue the School Resource Officer (SRO) program for the 2025–26 school year.
Police staff described the MOU as a continuation of an existing arrangement that provides three full-time SROs assigned to the high school, the middle school and McGuffey (Grama) Elementary, while the Butler County Sheriff’s Office covers schools outside the city limits. "This would be for the 2025–26 school year, to provide 3, full time school resource officers," a police representative told council.
Councilors and staff emphasized that SROs provide more than security: they cited relationship-building, student support and community partnership functions. Councilors thanked police staff for the ongoing collaboration with the district. The resolution passed by voice vote with no amendments recorded in the meeting.
The MOU continues the city’s existing SRO assignments and staffing; contract and operational details will be managed by the police department and school district under the terms of the MOU.
