Council approves settlement to buy 3-acre parcel for Oxford Area Trails alignment

Oxford City Council voted to authorize a settlement agreement that will allow the city to purchase a multimodal trail alignment and an adjacent three-acre parcel for $295,000, council heard on May 20.
Assistant City Manager Jessica Green told council that following an April 15 ordinance to appropriate certain properties the city and the property owner, identified in the record as EBR Investments, meditated under the process in the Ohio Revised Code. "During that process, we came to an agreement for the city to purchase this multimodal path alignment and a 3 acre parcel ... for a price of $295,000," Green said.
As part of the settlement the city also agreed to place a natural barrier along the trail's south side, install trail cameras, and place signage denoting private property outside the Oxford Area Trail area. Councilors thanked the law director and staff for negotiating what they called an "amicable" settlement and described the acreage as an asset to the trail.
The resolution authorizing the city manager to sign the settlement and proceed with the purchase passed by voice vote.
City staff said the purchase will preserve the planned trail alignment and add adjacent land that can serve as an amenity to the trail. Further administrative steps for closing and placing trail signage and barriers were assigned to staff.
