Following an executive-session hearing and review of a hearing officer’s report, the Joliet Township High School District 204 Board of Education voted to expel the student identified in the hearing record as case W242518 S until June 2026. Placement will be determined by the student’s individualized education program (IEP) team.
Board member Mister Coffey moved the motion, reciting the hearing-officer standard that the board consider whether removal was in the best interest of the school and whether all appropriate interventions had been exhausted. A second was called and a roll-call vote followed; the board voted to expel the student with the duration and IEP-team placement stated in the motion.
The hearing-officer standard the board cited requires the board to consider (1) whether continued presence in school threatens safety or (2) whether the student’s presence substantially disrupts school operations; the board then must determine the duration and placement. The board’s motion set the expulsion end date in June 2026 and left placement decisions to the IEP team.
The board’s motion passed on a roll-call vote of the members present.
