The Green Bay Police and Fire Commission convened a closed session at its May meeting under Wisconsin open‑meetings law to review patrol officer candidate backgrounds and to interview candidates. After the closed session the commission reported the outcomes in open session.
Pursuant to the commission’s announcement at the meeting, the closed session was held under provisions of the Wisconsin Statutes governing consideration of employment and candidate interviews. The motion to enter closed session was made and seconded on the record and the chair called for and recorded ayes; no opposition or abstentions were recorded.
After the background-review portion of the closed session, the commission reported that one candidate had self‑removed from consideration because they took another job, four candidates were rejected at the background-review stage, and two candidates were advanced to the interview stage. During the interviews, the commission interviewed two candidates, continued one candidate in the process and rejected the other candidate.
The commission then returned to open session and a motion to confirm that report was moved by Commissioner Dorff and seconded by Commissioner Malauz; the voice vote to confirm the report was unanimous. The commission did not provide names of the candidates or give details about the reasons for rejection or continuation in the public portion of the meeting.
No additional directions to staff, hiring timelines, or conditional offers were announced in open session; the public record provided only the counts and the procedural outcomes.
