Gary Hines, commander of the Ohio County Honor Guard and a Vietnam veteran, asked the Ohio County Fiscal Court on May 20 for financial help to fix leaks and update lighting at the veterans’ building.
Hines said the roof “leaks enough every time it rains,” that ceiling tiles are discolored or have fallen in and that he received a contractor quote of about $7,000 to apply three coats of a sealing product. On lighting, Hines said fixtures are old: he counted 19 fixtures and obtained a Menards materials quote of about $2,500. An electrician estimated labor costs of about $3,200 and an additional roughly $300 for damaged end caps, bringing the combined package “about 13,000.” Hines asked the court to consider assistance and offered to return at the next meeting with more details.
Court members expressed support for prioritizing roof repairs and asked Hines to return at the next meeting with any additional documentation and cost breakdowns. No funding vote was taken at the May 20 session.
