During the meeting Ford described a long record of public service, including fire, military and law-enforcement experience, and said he personally navigated veterans’ disability claims over 18 years. He said he wants to pursue accreditation through the Texas Veterans Commission and expand office availability.
Ford told the court he plans an initial schedule of daily morning hours and intends to pursue additional certifications and processes to improve service delivery. Commissioners thanked the outgoing veteran service officer for decades of service and approved Ford’s hire by voice vote.
County staff said the new hire will continue veteran outreach and that the court will recognize the retiring officer at a future meeting. Ford said he had community goals including a veterans’ retreat and pledged to build capacity for veterans’ claims and benefits assistance.
No salary or contract terms were discussed on the public record at the time of the vote; the motion approving his hire passed by voice vote.
