Locust Valley voters approve $98.3 million budget; two win seats on school board

Locust Valley Central School District voters on May 20 approved the 2025-26 school budget and elected two members to the Board of Education, the district clerk announced during a canvass at Anne MacArthur Primary School.
The district's Proposition 1, a $98,289,148 spending plan for the 2025-26 school year, passed with a districtwide tally of 731 yes and 530 no. Proposition 2, a 2025 capital reserve fund withdrawal, passed 823 yes to 417 no. Proposition 3, a Locust Valley Library tax levy voted only by qualified voters in the library service area, passed 424 yes to 177 no.
The results determine the district's operating revenue and approve a library tax levy that applies only to the Locust Valley library service area (previously Union Free School District No. 4, Town of Oyster Bay). Those vote tallies were read aloud by District Clerk Lisonbee Dunn during the board's post-election canvass.
In the election for two open three-year Board of Education seats, Christina Tomlinson received 894 votes and Lindsay Fox received 883 votes; both were declared elected. The board adopted a certificate of declaration after reviewing district tally sheets and the voting-machine canvass, as stated by the district clerk during the canvass process.
The board then moved to accept the certified results. A motion to accept the results of the budget and vote was made and seconded; the vote to approve the resolution was unanimous.
District Clerk Lisonbee Dunn administered an oath of office after the canvass. During the oath the clerk led the public repetition of the phrase, "I do solemnly swear." The transcript records the oath language and indicates an oath was given that evening.
The canvass narrative read into the record cites a provision of state law in explaining the board's role as the board of canvas; the clerk read a reference as "paragraph 7 c of section 234 2034 ... of the education law of the state of New York." That reading in the transcript is garbled and is recorded here as read aloud.
Board members and district leaders thanked the community and the staff for their work on the election and the budget process; the board chair congratulated the candidates and noted appreciation for community support.
