Ed Gala draws about 1,000 to Chevron Park to support El Segundo schools

About 1,000 people gathered at Chevron Park for the El Segundo Education Foundation’s 13th annual Ed Gala, organizers said. “This is our thirteenth annual, and we're so excited. We have a thousand people here,” Emcee Egirdio De Lio said.
The fundraiser brought local restaurants, businesses and community members together to raise money for school district programs. “Ed Foundation is the greatest. They sponsor all the specialists,” an attendee said, describing the foundation’s role in funding specialist positions in the district.
Organizers highlighted entertainment and fundraising activities at the event. “Tonight, you could expect fun, music, dancing, a silent auction, a live auction,” De Lio said, as attendees circulated among booths and a jazz band performed.
Parents and school officials told guests the foundation supports curricular pathways at El Segundo High School. “I have 2 kids that are at El Segundo High School. 1 of them is in the biomedical pathway, which is, funded through the Ed Foundation and has had an amazing time through his 4 years,” a parent said, noting the pathway’s support came through the Ed Foundation.
Speakers and attendees praised the partnership between the foundation and local businesses. “The partnership with the Community for Education and the El Segundo Education Foundation is unprecedented,” an attendee said, reflecting on the event’s growth since it began a decade-plus ago.
Organizers and frequent attendees said they expect to return next year. “This year's Ed Gala event receives an a plus from me. It was an amazing event, definitely bigger and better than all the rest,” De Lio said.
