District proposes one additional fourth-grade teacher at Briargate to reduce class sizes

At the April 21 Committee of the Whole meeting, Dr. White recommended the district add one full-time teacher for fourth grade at Briargate for the 2025——26 school year to reduce class sizes.
Dr. White said current projections show three sections in the grade with class averages around 27 students. Adding a teacher would reduce average class size to about 20. She said the district continues to monitor first grade and sections at Deerpath and 3 Oaks but that those other sections remain around the mid-20s and do not yet require additional staffing.
Mr. Shepherd confirmed the district has preplanned for the hire and that the cost is accounted for in the upcoming budget. Dr. White said the district waited to make the recommendation until registration clarified projected enrollments.
Dr. White said the recommendation will be moved to the consent agenda for formal action.
