During old business on May 20, Mentor City Council discussed a request to authorize an additional $30,000 for the Mentor Safety Village. Council members said the village has raised $30,000 and had previously received $30,000 from the city; they asked administration for a detailed appropriation plan before approving additional funds.
Councilmember presenters said the additional money was needed to finish the project and noted that city departments, including Parks and Recreation and administration, were assisting the Safety Village. The administration noted a supplemental appropriation ordinance would be necessary to provide additional funds.
Council agreed to delay action until the city manager returns and requested the administration (including Lauren Vernon and project lead Ron Wasson) provide a more detailed accounting of needs and how the funds would be used. Law/administration confirmed that an ordinance will be required for any appropriation and that the matter could be brought forward at the next meeting after the administration compiles the requested details. No appropriation was made at the May 20 meeting.
