The Utah League of Cities and Towns introduced a ‘‘Faces and Places’’ toolkit at its May 21 Legislative Policy Committee meeting to help cities build ongoing, face-to-face relationships with state legislators and showcase local projects.
ULCT said the toolkit will include links to the daily legislative update, tools to identify all municipal legislators, suggested engagement activities (from local rodeos to ribbon cuttings and police ride-alongs) and advice for working with legislators perceived as unsympathetic to a city.
"As you're planning your events this summer and as you're working on new projects this summer, be sure to extend an invite to those legislators," Cassie (ULCT staff) said, urging officials to invite legislators well ahead of the fall session when lawmakers receive many requests.
ULCT said the toolkit will be available in Friday FAQs and on the league's website and will evolve over time with more examples contributed by member cities. The league suggested the toolkit could help newly elected mayors and council members build relationships with legislators early in their terms.
