Mountain View High awards diplomas; students report more than $8 million in scholarships and three associate degrees

Mountain View High School celebrated its Class of 2025 at a commencement ceremony in which school leaders highlighted student achievements, recognized longtime staff and formally accepted the graduates.
School officials reported that students across the Mountain View student body earned more than $8,000,000 in scholarships this year, completed 4,525 college credit hours and that three members of the graduating class earned associate degrees from Utah Valley University. The school noted 54 graduates with a 4.0 GPA, 25 students with ACT scores of 30 or higher and 168 students who received seals of biliteracy.
Principal Kevin Henshaw framed his remarks around the ceremony’s theme, saying, "Our theme this year is it's all about our view." Henshaw urged graduates to practice gratitude and listed three habits he recommended: "stop and name 5," send gratitude notes and keep a gratitude notebook.
Student speakers emphasized reflection and community. Tristan Chi, who identified himself as the yearbook photographer, encouraged classmates to "take the risk to get that one picture that represents an unforgettable life experience," and closed his remarks with "We did it, class of 2025. I'll see you when I see you." Senior-class leaders recited cumulative participation figures: 565 students in athletics, 419 students participating in arts programs, state-level awards for cross country and other teams, and student fundraising and service totals.
The ceremony acknowledged five retirees — Brent Hymas, John Bowman, Mac Fieldstead, Corey Thomas and Dan Wayman — who were said to have a combined 157 years of service. John Bowman was also listed as directing the combined Symphonic Orchestra and Wind Symphony for the program.
Board member Ada Wilson formally accepted the graduates on behalf of the Board of Education, saying, "I am honored to accept these graduates, the Bruins of 2025. Go Bruins." Principal Henshaw followed Wilson’s remarks by stating, "I certify that these graduates have met the requirements set forth by the Alpine School District and the Board of Education to earn a diploma from Mountain View High School." The transcript records these as ceremonial certifications; no formal board vote or motion was recorded during the ceremony.
The program included musical performances, student tributes to parents and faculty, and the traditional turning of tassels. After closing remarks and the school fight song, graduates exited the arena row by row.
