Shorewood panel forwards committee appointments, corrects 'fire' label to 'police'

A Shorewood committee on an administrative agenda item moved to recommend appointments and one reappointment to the full Village Board for consideration at the May 19, 2025 Village Board meeting.

The committee clarified that the library board handles its own nominations through a nominating committee and noted an apparent labeling error on the agenda that listed a Fire Commission seat where a Police Commission seat should have been. The panel also reported only one active applicant for the CDA seat, identified as Alan. The committee approved forwarding the slate, with the single change from “fire commission” to “police commission,” by a 3-0 vote.

The action was described by one board member as a motion to recommend “all appointments and reappointment as slating with the exception of the fire commission being changed to the police commission, to the full board for approval and consideration during the 05/19/2025 village board meeting.” Another member seconded the motion; the committee recorded the vote as 3-0 in favor. The motion directs staff to place the recommended list on the Village Board agenda for the May 19 meeting.

During discussion, committee members asked for confirmation that the Library Board’s nominating committee makes recommendations for the library seat, and that the committee itself should not attempt to fill that seat because the Library Board handles its own appointment process. The committee also confirmed that one previously listed applicant had not applied to the CDA; as a result, Alan was the sole active applicant for that body.

Committee members thanked applicants for applying and thanked Village staff for managing the application process. No other substantive agenda items were discussed before the committee adjourned.

The recommendation is advisory: the full Village Board will consider and vote on the appointments at its May 19, 2025 meeting.
