Public works report: splash pad repairs, zone-based bulk pickup and road/culvert work outlined

Hollywood Park — Public Works presented department activity for April and outlined several near-term operations and maintenance actions, including splash pad repairs, a zone-based bulk pickup schedule, road repairs at the Voigt/Sage Crest intersection and culvert replacement plans.
The code-enforcement report showed 120 initiated calls in April (109 initiated by a code officer, seven by residents and four by others). Most calls were brush violations and building permit checks, with drainage and signage among other categories. Staff said 117 of 120 calls were closed and three remained pending.
Public Works reported a splash-pad motor malfunction earlier in the month that has since been repaired; staff said the feature uses a timed button on a wall that children sometimes toggle and that on some weekends staff must respond to reset it.
On solid-waste service, staff said coordination with the contractor Tiger Sanitation has reduced collection problems and reiterated that residents may place up to five bags for weekly pickup under the town contract. Officials said they are developing a zone-based bulk-pickup schedule, similar to brush pickup, to make collection more manageable for the hauler.
Public Works said it had discussions about hosting a hazardous-waste drop-off (paints, motor oil, household chemicals) and noted county-level programs exist but access can vary; staff said they will explore a localized collection event.
Street work: an asphalt removal and reconstruction at the Voigt/Sage Crest intersection will close the intersection for several days; staff expect the job to be completed in short order. Engineering work for multiple culvert crossings is underway and staff hope to advertise for bids and receive responses by the June council meeting.
Staff reported hiring-process updates: the city secretary and fire chief job postings were active, with roughly 73 city-secretary applicants and 10 fire-chief applicants to date; staff said many applicants lack prior city-secretary experience and that panels will be convened for interviews after the posting period.
Public Works asked residents with dead animals to place carcasses at the curb and call city hall for pickup, and reminded the public to avoid driving around barricades during road work.
Staff will publicize bulk-pickup zones, culvert design and road-closure details through the town's GetConnected channels.
