Applicant Lakeisha Brown told the commission pickup and drop‑off will occur at the front of the building and that existing front lighting is directed toward the building; she said staff will avoid using rear lighting at night. Supporters spoke in favor: Tommy Hicks Jr. and Simone Evans each stated the community needs extended‑hour childcare, and Evans said the applicant’s prior 24‑hour service had supported parents in similar circumstances.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about lighting and the facility’s age range; the applicant said the center would serve children up to age 12. Commissioners expressed support for the proposal, noting community need and that the condition on lighting addressed neighbors’ concerns.
Secretary Grama moved for approval; a second for discussion was given and the motion was carried in a roll call vote. The commission recommended approval and staff noted the item will appear at City Council on May 27 for final action.
