Council approves legislation drafting for fire radio upgrades and accepts $2,500 grant

The Committee of the Whole voted to have legislation drafted to provide supplemental appropriations for the fire department to replace end-of-life radio systems, and separately approved acceptance of an unexpected $2,500 grant for the fire division.
The Fire Chief described an equipment issue: "our radio systems... end of, I guess, you could say life is gonna be July 1," and said the city did not budget for full replacement. The chief said the department would apply $30,000 from an unspent UTV appropriation and requested a supplemental appropriation of $7,567 to complete required upgrades so stations would continue receiving alerts and other radio-based notifications.
Councilmember moved that staff draft legislation for a supplemental appropriations ordinance to cover the shortfall; the motion passed on a roll call. Later in the meeting staff clarified the supplemental ordinance request consists of two separate items: the radio-system funding and acceptance of a $2,500 grant award the department received unexpectedly. Councilmember Ms. Marcus moved to accept the $2,500 grant; roll call recorded approval.
Councilmembers did not request amendments to the appropriation at the Committee of the Whole stage. The motions direct staff to prepare the formal supplemental appropriations ordinance and a resolution to accept the grant for consideration at the next regular council meeting.
