BERKELEY COUNTY, W.Va. — Commission staff on May 21 reported an available balance of $12,223.81 in the Civil Service Commission's account and detailed recent obligations, including postage, advertising and a legal consultation invoice.
The report Mister Alderson told commissioners the balance stood at $12,223.81, of which about $9,900 is earmarked for professional services and contractual fees. Recent line-item changes included a $10.85 postage cost (returning a sergeant test to the West Virginia Division of Personnel) and a $351.79 difference in the advertisement/publication line for a required journal notice tied to promotions. Staff said a $100 invoice for legal consultation had been paid April 29.
County-clerk recall possible Staff reported he had spoken with the county clerk, who expects that any funds not spent by the first week of June would be recalled to the county. Commissioners asked whether the commission should encumber funds in advance for the publication ad and other known obligations; staff said the advertisement cost would be obligated immediately if the commission approved the promotion test dates and that postage to mail tests would be the only other imminent cost.
