She said the bill would require counties that adopt similar measures to create a special role with extensive training requirements and a three‑year training period in some cases, making enforcement more difficult.
The mayor said she had sent the letter and had sent a similar letter a year earlier to state lawmakers. The council did not take a formal vote at the meeting; the mayor said she had already transmitted the letter to the named officials.
No council discussion changed the city's position during the meeting. The mayor framed the issue as a concern about local governments' ability to address problem rental properties effectively.
