Caitlin Weston, a resident and parent, asked the Prince William County School Board on May 21 to expand protections and publicly available information for immigrant students and families amid increased immigration-enforcement activity.
Weston cited national changes in federal enforcement guidance and said schools should not be places where families feel at risk of arrest or separation. She requested three concrete steps: define and mark private school areas (beyond visitor lobbies), require guests — including law enforcement — to report to and pass through an administrative office, and require presentation of a valid judicial warrant or subpoena for review before allowing entry beyond front offices.
She also asked the district to post “know your rights” materials and multilingual resources from trusted legal and advocacy organizations and to provide trainings or materials to families. Weston said other nearby districts (Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun) offer similar resources. She presented a petition signed by 65 community members and said she would provide an electronic copy to the board.
The board did not take immediate formal action at the meeting but received the petition and the request for clearer public resources.
