District wins $25,000 DESE work-based learning grant; launches staff preschool pilot

The grant will be used to integrate MyCAP into student planning and advisory structures, enhance staff training and expand access to meaningful work‑based experiences. The district credited Director of Student Family Support Karen Baker O’Brien and district staff for securing the award.
Regan also described a new staff preschool pilot: the district has developed a full‑day preschool option for town and district staff with about 20 spots available (06:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.). If district staff demand is insufficient, the program will be offered to other town employees (police, fire, DPW). The program is intended to support employee retention and provide quality early-childhood experiences for children of staff.
In other business, district officials said summer programming plans are complete but noted uncertainty about state funding for certain pre‑K and 21st‑century learning programs; the district will continue to pursue funding and inform families if programs cannot run.
No formal vote was required for the grant announcement or the preschool pilot, and administrators said they will bring implementation details to the committee as the program develops.
