Council approves MOU with Republic R-III to use district bus for parks programs

The Republic City Council approved a resolution authorizing the mayor to execute a memorandum of understanding with the Republic R-III School District to allow Parks and Recreation to use a district bus for summer programs.
Carson Vaughn, recreation superintendent, told council the district provided a rental program in 2023 and 2024 and that the 2025 agreement allows an initial three-year term with successive three-year renewals by written addendum. "The terms outlined in the MOU state that the parks department will pay a flat fee of $50 per day which includes routine maintenance of the bus as well as fuel costs to be calculated at 50¢ per mile," Vaughn said. He added that the district will provide the driver, who must be employed by the school district, and that the total costs for the season are not to exceed $2,500; the district will invoice the Parks Department after the last day of summer use.
Council approved the resolution by voice vote, 7-0. Staff said the arrangement has worked well in prior years and provides transportation for field trips, summer camps and volunteer needs.
