Night market draws thousands; amphitheater and downtown projects advance

City staff told the Jeffersontown City Council that a recent night market drew significant crowds and that weekly farmers markets continue to be successful for vendors and downtown businesses.
Debbie, a city staff member who manages events and markets, told the council the night market was “a huge success” and estimated attendance between 2,500 and 3,500 people; she said restaurants and vendors reported strong sales. “It was a huge success. We've heard about between 2,500 to 3,500 people. The restaurants were busting at the seams. The businesses were busting at the seams,” Debbie said.
City staff also reported progress on the downtown amphitheater project: fencing is up, pavement is complete, striping is scheduled, and the plaza concrete work is nearly finished with pavers and a fountain tile installation underway. Staff said public works built a retaining wall that saved the city approximately $3,000 on the job and that 50 new public parking spaces have been added to inventory.
The council heard a schedule of upcoming events — including weekly farmers markets, a June concert and Summerfest — and staff said resident-focused incentives (such as a voucher day) had increased local attendance at the market.
What’s next: Staff will continue finishing work at the amphitheater and support forthcoming downtown events; no council action was required at the meeting.
