The City Council approved the purchase of a new aerial bucket truck for the electric department to replace a 2006 vehicle.
Staff described the unit as an articulating-telescopic (AT) 41-foot bucket truck to replace the older 2006 unit. Delivery was estimated to occur late 2027 or early 2028 because manufacturers place orders on a build list during specification and contract negotiation. The estimated purchase price discussed at the meeting was approximately $324,000; staff noted the price is approximate and that there is a contract clause allowing withdrawal if the price exceeds a set percentage above estimate. The standard warranty discussed covers the bucket, boom and outriggers for one year; staff will investigate extended-warranty pricing and report back.
Councilmembers moved and seconded the purchase, and the roll call vote carried with council approval.
Practical notes: staff said the older truck will remain in service as a backup until it fails diagnostic testing; the replacement truck will allow the electric department to continue routine maintenance and to support planned undergrounding projects.
