Maple Heights High School's counseling office reported that the senior class of 2025 received more than $1.9 million in scholarships, and school staff said 31 students earned the State of Ohio honors diploma.
School counselor Gretchen Tucker announced the figures during the commencement program: "Finally, it is my pleasure to announce that this senior class of 2025, as officially reported to the counseling office, have received over $1,900,000 in scholarships from various academic, athletic, and other organizations." She also announced that 31 students earned honors diplomas and described the honors diploma requirement: "In order to earn an honors diploma from the state of Ohio, a student must meet 8 out of the 9 criteria, which is a combination of coursework, grade point average, and performance in college entrance exams."
Tucker read the names of the top 10 students and members of the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society during the ceremony. The top 10 (read in alphabetical order) included Kayla Akram, Sudha Choo Chan, Cohen Collier Jr., Fortune Fields, Makayla Hardy, Keaton Harrison, Taimir Jones, Kaitlyn Podolski, Amira Reed and Zayana Suwell. The counselor also named dozens of students who qualified for honors diplomas, honor societies and technical honors during the program.
The announcements reflect the counseling office's official reporting for the graduating class. The ceremony did not include any new district policy changes affecting scholarships or diploma criteria; the honors diploma description was information provided by the counselor about state requirements.
