Jefferson County schedules vegetative storm debris pickup May 27–June 10; residents must schedule via MyJefco or call

Jefferson County officials said the commission passed a resolution authorizing pickup of vegetative storm debris left at the right of way from storms that occurred between May 16 and May 21, with the pickup window extended to include the most recent storms. County staff told the commission collection will take place from Tuesday, May 27, through Tuesday, June 10.

"We will pick up storm debris that the citizens bring to their right of way," said Chris, county maintenance staff, instructing residents to schedule a pickup either by calling maintenance or through the MyJefco app.

County staff clarified the program covers only vegetative debris from storm events. When a commissioner asked, "And this is vegetative debris?" Chris replied, "That's correct. Vegetated debris. That's yes." Staff emphasized the program would not cover household items or construction waste: when asked whether an old shed could be placed for pickup, the staff response was, "No, sir." Another prohibition noted was not placing refrigerators or household bulk items for pickup under the storm-debris program.

The resolution authorizing the cleanup was passed by the commission prior to the staff announcement; the staff member reported the operational details at the meeting. Citizens were told to place vegetative storm debris at their right of way and use the MyJefco app or call maintenance to schedule a pickup limited to vegetative storm debris.

The county manager and commissioners thanked the maintenance crews for storm response and drainage work; the manager noted crews have been working through recent storms. The meeting record did not specify budgetary amounts tied to the pickup or whether private contractors will be used.
