Salt Lake City Council members, acting in their separate roles as the Local Building Authority (LBA) and the Community Reinvestment Agency (CRA) Board, closed two public hearings on the proposed fiscal year 2026 budgets and referred both items to a new public hearing on June 3, 2025.
Jennifer Bruno, the council’s executive director, introduced both hearings. She explained that the LBA budget is the city’s financing mechanism for constructing and paying debt on facilities, citing examples such as the Glendale and Marmalead libraries, and that this particular hearing did not cover capital projects recommended in the mayor’s General Fund CIP log. She also noted the CRA budget had been discussed in a work session earlier the same day and that recordings and a staff report are available on the council’s budget website.
No members of the public were registered to speak on either budget during the hearings. Following the staff introductions, council members moved to close the public hearings and refer both the LBA and CRA FY26 budgets to a new public hearing on June 3; the motions passed unanimously with Councilmember Pui absent.
The referrals preserve additional opportunities for public comment and further council review. Staff directed members of the public to the online materials for more detail and reminded attendees that a second citywide budget hearing for the general ordinances is scheduled for June 3 at 7 p.m.
