Wayne Early Middle College graduates 39 with Wayne Community College credentials

The school clarified how to distinguish graduates during the ceremony: students in royal blue gowns were receiving high school diplomas while "the navy blue robes are for those students who are also received their degrees from Wayne Community College," a school official said.
Student speakers framed the night as both an academic milestone and a personal one. Senior Zayanna Hines told classmates, "We finally made it to the end of our high school journey and it feels surreal to say that out loud," and urged peers to take their lessons forward as they move to college, careers or other next steps.
A school representative announced the class' formal recognition, stating the declaration of graduation was made "based on the recommendation of the faculty of Wayne Early Middle College High School and by virtue of the authority vested in me by the state of North Carolina and the Wayne County Board Of Education." The declaration conferred high school diplomas; the college credentials were acknowledged by Wayne Community College during the ceremony.
Wayne Community College and Wayne Early Middle College stressed the partnership goal of allowing students to "earn college credit and work towards a post secondary credential while still in high school," a college official said during the program. The ceremony included the customary tassel turning and closing remarks from student leaders.
