The El Segundo City Council approved a three‑year contract with BrightView Landscape Services Inc. on May 20 to provide landscape maintenance services at $575,484 per year.
Councilmembers asked staff how the city will ensure the contractor delivers the scope in the RFP and how the city will audit performance. Staff said the RFP is attached to the agreement, BrightView will provide weekly quality site assessment reports with photos and written notes, and Public Works will conduct monthly meetings with the contractor (city superintendent, manager and supervisors) to review performance. Staff also said BrightView currently works for the school district and had been selected in part for its quality‑control program and reporting tools (including software that tracks time spent at each park/area).
Councilmember questions included whether the contract allows BrightView to use AI tools without express permission (the RFP restricted AI usage without written city permission) and whether residents can report issues through the El Segundo Connect app. Staff confirmed that resident reports will come to the city superintendent and be routed to the vendor as appropriate.
The contract passed on a roll call vote with Councilmembers Kaldorf, Drew, Boyle, Mayor Pro Tem Baldino and Mayor Pimentel voting yes.
