Commission tables Lakewood East parking study for additional resident workshop

The Coconut Creek City Commission on May 22 voted to table consideration of the Lakewood East Neighborhood parking study and to schedule a public work-style meeting where the consultant and city staff will present the proposed parking changes to residents.

The study, prepared by the Corradino Group in cooperation with city staff, recommended parking modifications at several local streets including Northwest 10th Street, Northwest 6th Street, Northwest 40 Ninth Avenue, Northwest 7th Court and Northwest 8th Street (as summarized in the staff report). Commissioners and residents raised concerns that the neighborhood had not received a follow-up public meeting after the consultant's report was prepared.

Commissioner Wasserman (the district commissioner for the area) said taking “that one extra step to get input again on what the study says” would be prudent and that a public meeting would not hurt the process. Commissioner Bridal made a motion to table so residents could review the study and speak at a public meeting; another commissioner seconded and the motion passed on a roll-call vote.

Staff said the consultant who prepared the report had not been available that evening but will be asked to attend the rescheduled work session. The city will notify residents of the follow-up meeting using email, direct mail and neighborhood signage; residents suggested using a QR code on signage to give on-the-spot access to study materials.

The tabling preserves opportunity for broader resident comment before the commission acts on any parking changes.
