Sylvania Schools board recognizes dozens of students for state and national awards; students raise more than $260,000 for cancer research

At its May 19 meeting the Sylvania Board of Education formally recognized dozens of students and their advisors for state and national competitions and for community fundraising, including a student team that raised more than $260,000 for cancer research.
Superintendent Dr. Vince Motley led the recognition of career-technical and Business Professionals of America (BPA) competitors, naming students and advisors across multiple events and noting national placements. He singled out a BPA final financial analyst team and other national champions. "I want to thank those individuals who took time to nominate someone in our Sylvania Schools family, and congratulations to those who were recognized," Motley said.
The board also acknowledged a group of students who, through a Student Visionaries program and related fundraisers, raised over $260,000 toward leukemia and lymphoma research. Motley told the gathering that the students' efforts gave the community hope: "Our students ... make me have hope for the future," he said.
