Staff said records are retained and a report or category summary could be produced annually or posted on the city's website. Council members also asked about retiring computers and data security. Staff and IT-related personnel (identified in the meeting by first names) said data wiping is handled and the city uses donation/ refurbishment partners such as PCs for People for salvageable equipment; staff said state statute allows electronic sale of property and that public works already uses online auctions.
A councilmember moved to approve the first reading of the ordinance; the motion was seconded and the council approved the first reading by voice vote. The ordinance change, if adopted at second reading and published, would let staff administratively follow the code-established disposal processes without presenting each item separately to the council.
