City schedules closed executive session on Police Benevolent Association negotiations

City Attorney Dawn Wynne announced the executive session would be held pursuant to Florida Statute 286.0118(d) and scheduled it for Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at the Marina Event Center, 190 E. 13th Street. The announcement listed participants who are to attend from the city and union negotiating teams and identified outside counsel who will participate.
Why it matters: Executive sessions under Section 286.0118(d) allow a public body to meet privately with its attorney for the purpose of discussing pending labor negotiations. The announcement put the date, time, location and the list of expected attendees on the public record.
Wynne read the participant list into the record; those named to attend from the city side included the city attorney, outside counsel, mayor, city council members, city manager, assistant city manager, police chief and other designated staff. The council did not take public action on contract language during the open meeting; the closed session was announced for the statutorily permitted private discussion.
