Commissioners on May 21 reviewed plans to staff the Farmers Market booth this spring and summer and discussed tools to make tabling more useful to residents.
Mark Saba said the Farmers Market schedule covers 14 market days with two sessions each, creating 28 staffing slots. Commissioners urged broad participation and encouraged new members to sign up. Staff said a city staff person will be present for the full market and commissioners will be paired with staff at each shift.
Commissioners asked staff to prepare a Farmers Market resource binder for tabling: maps of current and proposed projects, a list of frequently asked questions, contact forms to capture resident questions and signups, and simple engagement activities (dot exercises and polling) to draw participation. Staff agreed to print sample materials and bring a draft binder to the next meeting.
The group also discussed expanding outreach beyond the market to other community events (Kiwanis activities, car shows, park events and indoor gatherings) and suggested contacting organizing groups to request tabling opportunities. Commissioners proposed compiling a calendar of city and community events and returning next meeting with priorities and contact information.
Ending: Staff will assemble the binder and a list of community events and distribute sign-up opportunities for Farmers Market shifts; commissioners agreed to continue recruiting volunteers and to use market appearances to collect contact information and direct residents to upcoming town halls.
